Great Resource Sites for WAHMS

Here are two sites that you will find useful:

1) One is a blog by Suzzette ( who I met over at Social Spark (more about this site later).

Anyways, Suzzette’s blog is chokeful of very informative marketing ideas and resources for – you guessed it right – WAHMS. And the best part? They’re free! So head over to her site and pick up some ideas.

2) Sparkplugging is a great website for work at home parents – from starting a home business to home office productivity, to Work Life Balance and even resources for working parents.

By the way, both Suzzette and the editor of are also work at home moms (yey!). There’s really a hoard of us out there – we can harness this ‘energy’ for our collective good (but that’s for another post).

Talk to you soon!

Another Dose of Inspiration for Start-up Moms

Here are inspiring excerpts from the daily update that I receive from the My Powermall staff and My Ameriplan enroller, Shauna:

Daily Secrets For Success

It’s early in the  morning and I have something I want to share with you.  I’ve thought about this through the week, as well as laying in my bed this morning listening to the birds usher in the day as the sun lightened the horizon.

Many years ago a movement swept through America.  The call went out to all who had the courage and vision to “Head West”.  What a picture was drawn for them… The West is where you want to be.  There is land for everyone – for the taking!  Beautiful.  Fertile.  Opportunity for everyone.  Don’t miss your opportunity to be one of the first to stake your claim!

The call went out and hordes signed up to join the wagon trains pulling out of Independence, Missouri.  As the pioneers bought supplies and lined up their wagons, their eyes shone with the excitement of what would be waiting at the end of the trail.  I think it fair to say not one of them had a real understanding of what lay between Missouri and the far west they envisioned in their dreams.

Can’t you hear the conversation….?

“Why, honey,” one confident husband says to his rather nervous wife, “There isn’t going to be anything to this.  We’ve got a nice, sturdy wagon.  We’re all together, and we have plenty of food.  We’re just going to roll along the trail for a while and soon we’ll have everything we’ve dreamed of.  Just think of it!”

I don’t know how long before the starry looks faded from their eyes – somewhere between broken wagon wheels and Indian attacks.  Maybe it was the weevils in the flour, or the snowstorm that left them stranded in the mountains for months on end.  Perhaps it was losing a child to illness because there were not enough medical supplies, or simply the fatigue that came from fighting dust, heat and long days of the grueling cruelness of the trail.

Every pioneer who started down the trail, if they didn’t die, had one of three things happen.  Some gave up and turned back.  Others decided they couldn’t take any more and simply built a house where they stopped.   Then there were the others…  the ones who made it all the way to the West.

Yes, somewhere along the way the starry look faded from their eyes…… faded…. to be replaced by determination.  Broken wagon wheels; Indian attacks; weevils; snowstorms; death; fatigue; choking dust and long days.  They all became daily obstacles to be endured and overcome, but at some point each person who made it simply decided nothing was going to stop them.  They had left behind their former lives to go someplace new.  They were going…

So what about you?  Do you have a dream?  Do you have something you’ve started, but then turned back because it seemed so hard?  Or maybe you’re still on the trail, wondering which obstacle will be the one to destroy what you’ve worked so hard for.

Maybe you’re just looking at the trail, thinking, “No way.  Not me.  That just looks to hard.”  Yet your heart yearns to go where the trail will take you.

You have a choice to make every single day.  You can stay right where you are, or you can go on an adventure to accomplish what you dream of accomplishing.  Not going may seem safer, but the truth is that not going will only assure you stay right where you are in your life.

What do you want?  Where do you want to go?  The only way to get there is to start your journey – then determine to not let anything stop you.

You can do it!

My PowerMall Review: Another Way For Moms To Get Our “Share” of the Online Wealth

There has been a lot of buzz about My Power Mall, a new site that allows you to benefit 2 ways: 1) receive cash rebates when you buy things that you would normally buy anyway and 2) get rebates for the shopping done by family and friends you refer, up to 9 tiers.

Why is this a no-brainer? It’s FREE to join, No out-of-pocket or monthly fees. And nothing to sell. You can either sign up for personal savings (Personal Mall) or to make money (Business Mall).

Mypowermall gives the rebates to you in cash and you get something for referring the service. When I shop at Walmart (online or in store) – do I get richer? I get poorer! I get nothing in return except the receipt :(.

A couple of people asked me whether it is legitimate. Fair question. I looked around too before I signed up.

The company CEO/Founder is a well-known philanthropist and writer. The site lists all the staff and the company’s physical address. I also checked with BBB. No incriminating record there.

The most important thing? It is free to join. I am not required to fork out cash.

The video/movie illustrates very clearly the potential of My Power Mall.

I signed up because I figured I’ve got NOTHING to lose, even if I just want to save money on supplies for my home business or things for my kids.

P.S. Thank you to the first 6 people who emailed me for the free Cute Baby shoes. I still have 8 pairs left. If you want one, please email me at

Free Ebooks & What To Do First Before Starting A Business Online or Off-

I just downloaded these free ebooks from Eric whose blog I read because of his honest reviews and useful info about online marketing. Aside from being free, they also can be re-sold…!? But it  comes with an offer (I guess that’s how it is, huh?) but you can still get the free ebooks and also apply as an affiliate even if you say no to the offer.

What to do with them? I learned not to let them just sit in my hardrive (that’s what happened after downloading zillions of ebooks). I filed and categorized. Now I remember to always organize, organize, organize! And of course at the very least, READ them.

Which brings me to the next topic What To Do First Before Starting A Business Online or Off- read! Educate yourself by learning about online tools, terminology, who to learn from, pitfalls to avoid, online scams, etc. I would advise against buying ebooks at this point. There are numerous free online resources (some I’ve already mentioned in this blog under the category ‘startup resources’).

Don’t learn the hard way like I did.

Moms: Your idea could be worth $20,000 from Whirlpool brand!

I got this email from Whirlpool before Mother’s Day and was meaning to post it in here but as usual I got sidetracked…

“Happy Mother’s Day!

In honor of this year’s special day, you are invited to enter the third annual Whirlpool Brand Mother of Invention Grant Program, recognizing moms with creative inventions, innovative business plans or service ideas. Whirlpool brand understands that moms constantly take on new challenges and come up with creative solutions everyday – each year this program helps a few really innovative moms take their dreams to the next level.

This year, it could be you.  Do you have a brilliant idea you put on the backburner waiting for the right time, a little more money or just a little more gumption to forge ahead? Now is the time to turn those ideas into the successful venture you always knew it could be!

To participate, simply fill out an entry form available on or at designated retailers by answering questions that detail your unique idea, the inspiration behind it and its real world applications.

The 2007 Whirlpool Brand Mother of Invention Grant Program is seeking entries that:

Create a solution to an unmet consumer need
Are unique in the current marketplace
Could be a viable business
Have an interesting story around the creation.

Applicants have the chance to win:

Grand Prize: $20,000 grant, Whirlpool(R) Duet(R) or Cabrio(TM) washer and dryer pair, a Whirlpool(R) Fabric Freshener and a $3,000 stipend for a new home office.
First Prize: (2) $7,000 grant, a Whirlpool Gold(R) PowerScour(TM) dishwasher and a Whirlpool(R) Duet Sport(TM) washer and dryer pair.
Second Prize: (2) $5,000 grant and a Whirlpool(R) Duet Sport(TM) washer and dryer pair.

In addition to receiving grant money and Whirlpool product prizes, all winners will attend a business boot camp led by Whirlpool brand experts.

Now is the time to get your ideas rolling! Enter or spread the word to friends, family or colleagues. Moms interested in applying for the 2007 Whirlpool Brand Mother of Invention Grant are encouraged to visit starting May 13, 2007. The program closes on July 30, 2007.”

I submitted a business idea last year. But the deserving moms who won had concrete products – complete with prototypes/samples. I guess the judges are more into ‘mom inventions’ than business plans.

For my effort, I got a nice Certificate of Participation and a sense of validation.
